About the Soup & Bread Soupscription

Have you already worked your way through the Soup & Bread Cookbook? Are you longing for something new and different — but still soupy? Sign up for a Soupscription!

For $60 you’ll get recipes for five new Soup & Bread soups – and one for bread! – delivered to your mailbox every month through November 2011. Your real mailbox, not the boring digital one.

Printed on sturdy card stock and illustrated with Paul Dolan‘s drawings for the Soup & Bread Cookbook, the recipes are drawn from the pool of amazing soups prepared by professional and amateur chefs during Soup and Bread 2010, as well as those already simmering for 2011. Your Soupscription kicks off with a starter pack of vegetarian, vegan, or meat recipes, or you can opt for a variety pack. After that you’ll get a tested mix of surprising soups: some vegetarian, some meat; some simple and some sophisticated.*

Our current recipes range from City Provisions‘s Cream of Mushroom with Leeks and Pancetta to Sheila’s mom’s Shrimp and Red Pepper Bisque. We’ve got Irish-style Sheep Stew from Mint Creek Farm; Slovak Mushroom-Sauerkraut Soup from Chicago Reader food writer Mike SulaSpinach and Rice Soup from Bloodshot Records‘ CEO Rob Miller; Black-Eyed Pea, Kale, and Chorizo Soup from novelist Terri Griffith; vegan Red Pepper Soup from our friends at Swim Cafe . . . and so much more!

Subscribe now and in January you’ll be cooking up Paul Kahan‘s Yellow Split Pea Soup with Truffles and Jill Barron‘s Lentil-Pasilla Chile Soup, plus Hominy Corn Soup from first-grade teacher Megan Roberts, Chickpea-Lentil Stew from dietician Megan Tempest, and Fish Soup from neurobiologist Roger Simon (that’s Martha’s uncle).

To sign up for your Soupscription via PayPal click the link on the right — or  just email soupscriptions [at] gmail [dot] com . As ever, a portion of the proceeds from Soupscription sales will be donated to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

Soup and Bread 2011 starts January 5 and runs Wednesdays through mid-April at the Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia. Soup’s on at 5:30 and served till 7:30 or we run out, whichever comes first. There’s never a cover and kids are always welcome.

* We’re sorry but we’re not able to create exclusively vegetarian or vegan Soupscriptions. But we promise each monthly mailing will include at least two veggie-friendly soups. And probably more.
